Anesthesia Providers

Anesthesia services are provided by Star Anesthesia. The anesthesia staff is highly qualified in all aspects of outpatient surgery. Prior to surgery, a member of the anesthesia team will consult with you and your doctor to decide what kind of anesthesia is safest for you.

Dr. Rick Hartwig, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) & PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Certified

Dr. Hartwig is the founder of Star Anesthesia, PC. In 2004, the Nebraska Surgery Center partnered with Star Anesthesia to provide dedicated anesthesia services for their patients. As more procedures are being performed in the outpatient setting, anesthesia care has become more specialized. New advances and techniques are tailored to patients who will recover from their procedure in their own home. Dr. Hartwig has over 24 years of experience and a broad base of experience in both the inpatient and outpatient setting caring for patients of all ages.

Dr. Hartwig grew up in the small town of Cortland, NE. He attended the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and pursued his medical education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University. Prior to joining Nebraska Surgery Center, Dr. Hartwig practiced at Saint Elizabeth’s Regional Medical Center, BryanLGH East and West Medical Centers and other outpatients facilities in the community.

Dr. Hartwig is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, the Nebraska Medical Association, Nebraska Society of Anesthesiologist and the Lancaster County Medical Society. Dr. Hartwig provides leadership and direction as the Medical Director of Nebraska Surgery Center and serves on the Board of Managers. He has completed both Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for Adults and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Children.

Dr. Hartwig and his team are committed and dedicated to providing safe, state of the art, high quality anesthesia care to the patients at Nebraska Surgery Center. Dr. Hartwig resides in Lincoln with his wife and enjoys spending time with his two grown children and grandchildren. He is an avid supporter of Nebraska Sports and is known for his hospitality and barbeque skills.

Dr. Matt Behrens, ACLS & PALS Certified

Dr. Behrens was born and raised in Lincoln. He received a degree in biochemistry from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center and received his medical degree. He continued at UNMC to specialize in Anesthesiology. Dr. Behrens served as the chief resident of the Department of Anesthesiology at UNMC in 2008 and 2009. Dr. Behrens received additional specialized training in regional anesthesia (pain blocks) with ultrasonic guidance.

Dr. Behrens joined Star Anesthesia, PC, in August of 2009. Dr. Behrens is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is member of American Society of Anesthesiologists, Nebraska Medical Association, Nebraska Society of Anesthesiologists, and Lancaster County Medical Society.

Dr. Behrens resides in Lincoln with his wife and two young children. He enjoys sports and exercise and landscaping.

Dr. Dana Lockee, ACLS & PALS Certified

Dr. Lockee is the newest member of Star Anesthesia, PC, beginning her practice in January of 2012. She is proud to claim Lincoln as her hometown. She received a degree in biological science from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She completed a one-year internship in Family Medicine at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. She completed her training in anesthesiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the fall of 2011. Dr. Lockee is Board Eligible for certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Lockee is a member of American Society of Anesthesiologists, Nebraska Medical Association, Nebraska Society of Anesthesiologists, and Lancaster County Medical Society.

Dr. Lockee resides in Lincoln with her husband and three young sons. She is busy with creative, exciting outdoor adventures with her young family.

Jeffery Vanevery, CRNA

Prior to joining Star Anesthesia PC in 2019, Jeff has provided care in Lincoln since 2005, and as a CRNA since 2015. Jeffrey started his Nursing degree at BryanLGH College of Health Sciences, then advanced his degree at Nebraska Wesleyan before returning to get his Masters at BryanLGH. Jeffrey is board certified with American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Jeffrey is a proud Nebraskan, who grew up in O’Neill Nebraska and resides outside of Lincoln with his wife and four children. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors and keeps busy cheering on his children in their activities.
